Iga Swiatek can add another success to her list of awards. For the second year in a row, the Pole was chosen player of the year in the WTA plebiscite.

The WTA, an association of organizers of women’s tennis tournaments, referee federations and tennis players themselves, has just announced the results of its annual plebiscite of the best players of the year. The winner was Iga Swiatek.

The WTA hailed the leader of the WTA ranking, Iga Swiatek, as the best player of the season. This is the second year in a row that Swiatek wins the plebiscite. Justifying its decision, the WTA noted that Iga Swiatek became the first woman in a decade to win the WTA 250, WTA 500, WTA 1000, WTA Finals and Grand Slam tournaments in the same season. Let us remind you that Swiatek won six tournaments this season – the Grand Slam in Paris and tournaments in Beijing, Doha, Stuttgart, Warsaw and the season-ending WTA Finals in Cancun.

The WTA’s best doubles pair was Australian Storm Hunter and Belgian Elise Mertens. In the “greatest progress” category, the Chinese Qinwen Zheng won, in the “comeback of the year” category – the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, and the best new player was the Russian Mirra Andreeva.
