After the last fruitful seasons, Real Madrid has one of the biggest crisis in years. In Champions League Round Of 16 the team was eliminated by Ajax, even though Madrid team was undoubted favorite. In Copa del Rey the club was dropped out by Barcelona and in La Liga there are almost no chance to win the title.

At the beginning of the season Julen Lopetegui was the manager in Madrid, who signed a contract in June, after being fired from Spain National Team right before the World Cup for talks with Real without permission. He was replaced by Santiago Solari, former ‘Los Blancos’ player. Despite better results, elimination from Champions League by Ajax was too much for Real Madrid’s authorities. As soon as it turned out, that Zidane is interested in coming back to his former position, which he left in May 2018, the action to sign him again were taken.

The club decided, that is hard to find a better candidate for the job than a legend, who not so long ago won three Champions League titles in row. The team requires a lot of changes and there was no reason to keep Solari, who was a temporary manager and his task was to lead the team out of crisis and build the ground under a vision of his successor.

‘Los Blancos’ has nothing to lose this season, so Zidane can improve morale in the team and build the new, stronger squad. The team struggles without Cristiano Ronaldo and with the old guard at crucial positions, so it needs generational change. It is said though, that Zidane will receive unlimited budget for the new players in the summer window.

The new manager is happy to be ‘back home’, where he spent five years as a player and another two as a coach. Now it is time for a bigger challenge though, as Zidane has to lead the team out of crisis and restore glory at Santiago Bernabeu.
