The end of Serie A season has come. Champion and vice-champion were already known, as Juventus and Napoli gathered way more points than the rest. Similarly to Premier League, four teams have fought for two places in Top 4. The rivalry lasted until the last gameweek. Atalanta, Inter, AC Milan and even AS Roma had a chance to advance to Champions League in the next campaign.
Romans were in the worst situation before the weekend, having 63 points. Milan had two more, Atalanta and Inter – three. None of this teams had a tough opponent, so they were favorites in their games. Roma faced Parma, ‘Rossoneri’ – SPAL, ‘Nerazzurri’ – Empoli, Atalanta – Sassuolo. All these matches began at 8.30 pm.
After the first half, Gattuso’s proteges could be excited – they were leading 2:0 in their match, Atalanta was drawing and Inter conceded a goal. The second half determined though, that the teams didn’t switch positions and Inter with Bergamo team finished the season in Top 4. Spaletti’s proteges had a lot of luck in the end, as Empoli had a great chance to equalise. All of the contenders won their matches.
AC Milan can be especially disappointed with the result. ‘Rossoneri’ hasn’t played in Champions League since 2014. For the third time in the row they will play in Europa League, but they’re closer each year to the top European tournament.
