After a year-and-a-half period as manager, Gennaro Gattuso, Milan coach, has parted company with the club as the result of not advancing to the Champions League next season. Instead of ‘Rossoneri’ Inter and Atalanta qualified, having two points more than Milan.
The last months haven’t been successful for the club. Milan have been losing game after game, mostly with the direct rivals to places in Top 4. They also have been eliminated from Coppa Italia by Lazio in semifinal. Even the pass of four wins in row at the end of the season haven’t reduced the gap between them and the opponents. The team played mostly ineffective and unproductively in offensive, so even such a great striker as Krzysztof Piątek, who proved himself in Italy, had infirmity of scoring.
Italian decided together with the club about the conditions of departure. Also Leonardo, sporting director, resigned from his role. You can’t say though, the team hasn’t achieved any progress after Vincenzo Montella period. The beginning of the 2017/18 season was tragic for the team despite all the expenses, so the previous manager was fired. Gattuso, hired after him, saved the campaign and led Milan to sixth place and to the fifth this season, just a step away from Champions League place.
Now it’s time for the manager from the higher level, who will maintain the progress and permanently introduce the team in Top 4. Among the available names are Maurizio Sarri, who is not welcome in London and Massimiliano Allegri, who continued Juventus dominance in Serie A after taking over.
