Diego Godin, Atletico Madrid’s centre-back, said goodbye to the club, where he spent his last 9 years and cheered with the most successes. Now it’s time for another adventure and changing the environment, as he’s joining Inter. ‘Nerazzurri’ likes to buy Atletico’s players.
Uruguayan began his carreer in Cerro Montevideo, then he joined their local rivals, National. In 2007 he moved to Europe to play for Villarreal. After another three years the player decided to sign an agreement with Atletico. Diego Simeone took over the team a year later and started their magnificent way to glory. ‘Rojiblancos’ won the title in 2013/14 season after 18-years-long break, advanced twice to the Champions League final, but they lost both times to Real Madrid.
Uruguayan could enjoy other European successes though. At the beginning he won UEFA Super Cup in 2010, then earned another two, after he had won Europa League twice.
In Spain both team, Barcelona and Real Madrid, completely dominated the league, so except for one title Copa del Rey (2013), Spanish Super Cup (2014). Atletico became famous in the whole Europe though for their intense way of play, efficiency and especially a solid defence. Godin has been its leader for years and now he’s going to strengthen ‘Nerazzurri’ and reunite with his former teammate, Miranda.
