Bayern officially announced the signing of Lucas Hernandez since July 1st. Frenchman is a Atletico Madrid’s left-back and last year’s world champion. He will become the second most expensive defender in history, after Virgil Van Dijk. Bayern will pay for the full-back 68 million pounds (80 million euros), what makes him the most expensive Bayern signing as well. It’s almost twice as the club spent on Corentin Tolisso (41.5 mln euros).
Hernandez has just turned 23, but he already won the World Cup, where with Benjamin Pavard as a right-back he became a tournament revelation. Bayern decided to strengthen their squad with both players, so David Alaba and Joshua Kimmich could have competition. Both Frenchmen can also play as centre-backs, so it seems like Bavarians don’t have to worry about the defence for years.
It is a big loss for Atletico though. Their first line is getting older and older. Another left-back, Filipe Luis, turn 34 this year and his contract expires before the birthday. Frenchman supposted to be a defender for years, but Atletico has to find quickly a new replacement.
Lucas is Theo Hernandez’ older brother, who currently plays for Real Sociedad on loan from Real Madrid. New Bayern’s signing has spent 12 years in capital of Spain, first in
youth teams, since 2014 in a senior team. He won Europa League was a runner-up in Champions League, when the team lost to their local neighbors. Now it’s time for him for a new challenge and restoration of Bayern’s power, what Bavarians hopes for. They put their hands in their pockets as one of the last big teams.
