Olivier Giroud is probably one of the most underrated forwards in the world. Despite achieving successes and being useful for his teams, some say he doesn’t score a lot. Frenchman was a champion in France, won 4 FA Cup four times, World Cup in Russia and silver medal in Euro 2016 and proved himself as very needed in every team he has played for.
Forward started his career in Grenoble Foot, but the world heard about him for the first time in Montpellier, which he joined in 2010. In Tours FC shirt he became the top goalscorer in Ligue 2 and deserved for a transfer. In 2011/12 season he shocked the whole France with the team performance – Montpellier won the league and Giroud contributed to this triumph with 21 goals and 9 assists, becoming the top goalscorer in Ligue 1.
After this season he joined Arsenal, but he wasn’t able to win the title again. In ‘The Gunners’ shirt he scored 105 goals and provided 41 assists. One of the goals, against Crystal Palace in 2016/17 season, won Puskas Award for the most beautiful goal of the year.
In January 2018 Giroud moved to their local rivals, Chelsea. He doesn’t play in the first squad a lot and is not the top goalscorer either, but he cooperates with Hazard brilliantly. Despite his height, he can play combinational, create occasions for his teammates and has an amazing technique. He scored only once this season in Premier League, but he doesn’t play much and he contributes more directly in Europa League, where he netted 9 times and probably will become the top goalscorer of the tournament.
The crowning achievement of his career is won World Cup last year. Even though Giroud didn’t score any goal then, he was crucial in manager’s tactics. He drew attention to himself by rivals’ defenders, due to Mbappe and Griezmann had more space on the pitch.
