Simona Halep learned the tribunal’s verdict regarding her positive anti-doping test. The tennis player received a four-year suspension. Serena Williams reacted to the news about the end of Simona Halep’s case. Williams’ comment is very telling.

Simona Halep was sentenced in the anti-doping case. The tennis player was suspended for four years because the substance Roxadustat, which is on the banned substances list, was found in her body last fall.

Initially, Halep was suspended indefinitely. It took a year for her trial to be resolved. During this time, Halep gave a high-profile interview in which she criticized ITIA for handling the case too slowly and rejecting her requests to admit evidence proving her innocence. Halep claimed all along that she had taken the substance unknowingly. Laboratory tests that she ordered on her own revealed that the banned substance was in her body because one of the supplements Halep used was contaminated. The Halep case has just ended. The ITIA suspended the tennis player for four years, adding that she knowingly took a banned substance and most likely used doping.

Halep announced that she would appeal against the tribunal’s verdict. Meanwhile, the legendary American tennis player, Serena Williams, spoke about Halep’s verdict. Halep and Williams have competed against each other many times. The Romanian denied Williams the chance to win her eighth Wimbledon trophy by defeating the American. This is probably what Williams’ comment on Twitter refers to.

– 8 is a better number – wrote Serena Williams on Twitter.

Williams is known for expressing her opinions honestly. Her comment is valid if it acknowledges Halep’s guilt as obvious, but for many it may be controversial enough to provoke criticism of the American.

Are you on Serena Williams’ side? Do you believe Simona Halep?
