In the years 2005-2022, 18 finals of the Internazionali d’Italia tournament in Rome were played. All of them involved Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic. Both fought in six of them. Now, for the first time in 18 years, neither of them will be in the final.
Nobody in tennis has achieved as much as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. No other tennis player has broken as many records as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Serbian and the Spaniard are the only ones to dominate some of the tournaments. One example of such events is the Italian tournament of the Masters 1000 rank – Internazionali d’Italia.
Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic have been in the final of the Internazionali d’Italia for 18 years in a row. Six times they advanced to the final together and fought against each other. In those 18 years, Nadal won the event ten times, Djokovic eight times. Only twice has someone else been the winner – in 2017 Alexander Zverev, in 2016 Andy Murray. This year, for the first time since 2005, both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will be absent from the Internazionali d’Italia final. The Spaniard is battling an injury. The Serb lost in the quarterfinals to Holger Rune. So for the first time since 2005, the tournament will have a new winner. Djokovic and Nadal’s dominance at ATP Rome is impressive.
